Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder is searching for two Book Store Assistant Sales Floor Managers! These positions assist the Store Manager with all areas of the Book Store sales floor and customer service departments. This includes providing excellent customer service to customers, assisting student employees and other store staff. The first position (Technology) will be responsible for the technology area of the sales floor, the Point-of-Sale system, and its functionality.
The other position (Merchandising) will assist in implementing and planning merchandise changes, sales events, and promotions, working within the general merchandise departments, not including textbooks. This role will work to keep the store fully stocked and merchandised to improve sales. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Technology Services & Customer Support (Technology Position):
- Assist customers with new computers, software, hardware, and accessories. Answer questions with current and accurate knowledge on products available in-store, on campus, and online.
- Research and maintain accurate, up-to-date knowledge regarding current trends in technology.
- Manage services offered by the Tech Department, including computer rentals, 3D printing, laser cutting, third party computer repair intake, and others. Manage and maintain relationships with external service providers.
- Manage supply and manufacture (via 3D printing) of custom or specialty parts for store fixtures. Manage inventory and maintain deployment of Electronic Shelf Labels store wide.
- Plan and facilitate the offerings of the Book Store Tech Experience. Ensure adequate staffing and safety protocols are met. Maintain all equipment and provide adequate training to employees responsible for running the Tech Experience.
- Maintain clean and organized inventory stock, where all products are visible and easily locatable.
- Supervise Tech Department student employees. Ensure adequate staff to provide coverage in the department, including onboarding new employees. Cover Technology Desk duties during times of limited staffing or busy times.
- Train and manage all cashiers; create cashier training manuals and implement all cashier training via in-person or virtually.
- Keep cashier related policies and procedures updated and current. Partner with accounting department to correct mistakes.
- Keep current information of all new cashier functions and communicate to students.
- Partner with IT department to fix POS systems. Partner with NetSuite to solve all POS issues.
- Handle all highly involved and complicated transactions and correct mistakes when applicable.
- Maintain store appearance by ensuring merchandise is displayed correctly. Use standard methodologies to ensure the store aesthetic appeals to all customers.
- Handle inventory accuracy through occasional inventory checks, cycle counts and product information accuracy corrections.
- Proactively bring product to the front of store and work to ensure all product is fully stocked for customers.
- Relay product information and customer input to GM buying team in a timely manner.
- Acknowledge and greet all customers and provide assistance.
- Process purchases using the stores Point of Sale system, using cashiering procedures.
- Stay informed of upcoming events, policy changes and changes to standard processes.
- Assist in the resolution of web order problems and help the web orders team find missing product.
- Assist in development, planning, execution, and enhancements of in-store customer experiences.
- Ensure scheduled students have the resources needed to succeed.
- Provide necessary guidance student employees need for merchandising decisions, restocking priorities, adherence to trained procedures, and best customer service practices.
- Create and take ownership for daily task list. Work with other employees on completion of tasks.
- Serve as the manager on duty for the entire CU Book Store. Follow procedures for store opening and closing. Work weekends as manager on duty on a rotating schedule. Be the first or last staff member to arm or disarm alarms and check for security or maintenance issues.
- Lead employees assigned to the appropriate tasks or locations, enabling the store to operate properly.
What You Should Know
- These positions will follow retail hours; typically, Monday-Friday, and will also include varying weekend hours Saturday and Sunday. Some late nights may be scheduled based on the needs of the business.
- These are mostly in-person positions.
What We Can Offer
- The salary range is $47,000 - $51,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 year of retail experience.
What You Will Need
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office.
- Strong customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and time management skills.
- Problem solving skills.
